Week 10 Storytelling: Why are dogs so smart?

One day, a dog was lost in the woods and he was very afraid to see a lion coming toward him.  The Dog said to himself, "I am going to die today; the lion will not leave me alive." And while he was thinking, he saw some bones on the ground around him.  And a great idea came to his mind. He took one of the bones and sat with his back to the lion and pretended to be amused licking the bones and began to scream, and to belch loudly and started saying, "Wow, the bones of the lion really delicious. If I get more of them today I will go to celebrate this wonderful day." When the lion heard what the dog was saying, he got afraid and said to himself, “This dog hunting lions and I have to run away and save my life.” Then the lion ran away from the dog very quickly.

At that time, there was a monkey on a tree watching the entire game.  After thinking for a while, he said to himself, "This is a good opportunity to make the lion my friend and I have to tell him about this game.” The monkey was trying to make the lion his friend and thus he will not be afraid of him anymore.

The monkey ran toward the lion to disclose the dog game to him. The dog was seeing the monkey running behind the lion and he realized that something bad will happen to him.

  

The monkey told the lion everything and explained to him how the dog deceived him.   The lion roared loudly and said to the monkey, “you should ride my back and we need to go to see the dog quickly.”

The dog was very intelligent and he sat down again with his back to the lion and began to speak loudly: "This monkey took a long time. It's been a full hour and he still unable to bring me another lion for the dinner today"

When the lion heard that, he threw the monkey from his back and devours him as a punishment for treason.

And since the day everybody knows that dogs are very smart animals even if they are not that smart. But because of the intelligence of this dog in that day, he was able to win in the game and save his life even if the lion is very strong animal.

Author’s note:

I did my reading this week over the Great Plains unit. And I really enjoyed reading it. One of the stories talked about why the deer has a blunt teeth and how the deer got his horns. And I thought that would be interesting to know why the dogs are so smart and what made the people know that all dogs are so smart, so I decided to write a story to explain why dogs are so smart.

Week 10 Reading Diary, continued: Rabbit and Deer

This tale from the Great Plains unit and it takes about a Rabbit and Deer were going to do a race to win the horns, but because the rabbit was cheating the before the race so the deer got the horns .and it also talks about why the deer has blunt teeth and that was also because of the rabbit. I think it is an interesting story to inspire me to write a new one.

Week 10 Reading Diary: Old-Woman-Who-Never-Dies

Old-Woman-Who-Never-Dies is a story from Great Plains unit. 

Old-Woman-Who-Never-Dies lives in the moon and she has six children. Every spring she sends the wild geese, swans, and the ducks that enable the Indians to eat.so when she ends the wild geese, the Indians plant their corn and Old-Woman-Who-Never-Dies makes it grow. When eleven wild geese are found together, the Indians know the corn crop will be very large. The swans mean that the Indians must plant gourds; the ducks, that they must plant beans

The Old-Woman-Who-Never-Dies lived near the little Missouri and sometimes the Indians visited her.

I think I can write a story like this by making all the people believe in something can do everything for them.

Week 9 Review

 For this week, one of the posts that I really like is the one talk about staying creative and take risks.it is so interesting to read.

Week 9 Storytelling:Panda-Husband

My name is Mary. I am 27 years old. I do not have too many friends in my life and I always love to spend my entire time in my job where I work at the zoo. It is a very large zoo in north Florida. It has 2,000 kinds of animals. I am working there as a vet and my duty are to make sure that all the panda in a good health and they do not have any problems. Especially this kind of bears is threatened with extinction which means they need too much care.

One day while I was doing my duty as usual, one of the pandas, his name is Zai, was so sick. I was trying to talk to him, but he was not able to answer me, after I did  the medical examination for him I found that he needed to enter the hospital, I told my assistant that we should  take him very quickly to the hospital to receive treatment.

After I took him to the hospital, I was spending all the time with him to make sure he was getting better and I was the only one who feed him and talk to him all the time. And what happened with me that I started to love him and I did not want to do anything in my life more than just staying with him and talk to him about anything in my mind. I was feeling that Zai the only one he can understand me in this world.

One month passed and Zai went back to the zoo to continue his life as normal and I kept checking on him every day until one day I was giving him the medicine that he was still needed, and I heard somebody whispering in my ear I love you. That was Zai. At that moment I did not know what to do. I raised my head slowly and looked in his eyes and said I love you too Zai and I hugged him. That was an amazing feeling I never feel it before.

Since that day we are having an amazing relationship and I had the permission to take him out of the zoo for couple hours every day where in those couple hours we did a lot of things like eating dinner together, watch movies, or going for shopping. And after I finish writing my story for you guys, I am going to meet him for lunch. Anyways, seven months ago Zai and I got married and we are now living a very happy life. Today I am in the 13 week of pregnancy .the doctor said my little panda in very good health and I am so excited to see him in front of my eyes.

Last week I traveled with Zai to California to introduce him to my family and tell them that I am pregnant with a very beautiful little panda. The surprise was that when they saw Zai they scared and they did not believe that I have a little panda in my womb. They told me if I do not ask for divorce and do the abortion to my baby they will not talk to me anymore in my whole life.  And losing my baby is something impossible and I am not going to do that because I love my baby and my husband as well.

Now I do not know what to do I need my family and also I need to stay with my husband and wait to have our baby.

Any suggestions?

Author’s Note:

Dog-Husband is a story about a girl got pregnant from a dog where he was changing to a human during the night and then she gave birth to five dog pups.  Her parents did not accept that even if that dog is a human in the night. And she had to raise her children by herself after her parents killed the dog. And in my story I just imagined a girl sitting in front of her laptop and trying to write her story in some website on the internet and asking for help to find a solution to her problem.

Week 9 Reading Diary, continued:The Dog-Husband

Dog-Husband is a story about a girl got pregnant from a dog where he was changing to a human during the night and then she gave birth to five dog pups. This kind of stories can make me do a lot of changes to the story and still make sense to the reader because the original story is talking about weird things and an imaginary relationship between a girl and dog. In my story  I am going to do a relationship between a human and an animal without make the animal change to a human and I will see if this relationship can be successful one or not .

Week 9 Reading Diary:The Woman Stolen by Killer Whales

I did my reading this week over the Native American Marriage tales unit. And I really enjoyed reading this unit.one of the episodes that I liked was “The Woman Stolen by Killer Whales” and I think this story is a great one to make the reader imagine what would happen next. And while I was reading I was wondering what the fisherman would find after he pulled up the heavy thing that was on his hook. And I was also waiting to read what would happen while the woman cutting the fish. I think I would continue my story from this point where something would happen to the woman and man just for cutting that fish where cutting this kind of fish can bring them bad luck.

Time Schedule

My time schedule has been doing reading on Tuesday and Wednesday and I am writing my story on Thursday. And I usually get to finish my weekend assignments on Sunday.

So far I feel like I am doing pretty well with this time schedule and I think i will keep working with it for the next half of the semester. One of my classes that I am taking this semester is a 5 weeks class which is very time- consuming class and it takes a lot of time to finish the project and do the report.

I am really enjoying the reading in this class, but I noticed that I am spending too much time doing this class (more than just 6 hours a week) because every day in each week, except Monday, I have to submit an assignment.

Overall I feel good about the class and I will keep working hard until the end of the semester because it is a great class.

Week 7 Review

My favorite quote for this week was “the creativity is the result of hard work” which is something I strongly agree with. Working hard and giving everything enough time to think of can lead everybody to create new things.

Week 7 Storytelling:Best Friends

Once, a cat and a mouse were living in the same house and they were very good friends. They were playing together all the time and always go out for walking together.

As winter was approaching, they decided to stock some food in their house.so they went to the market and bought the food. Fearing that other cats or mice might steal their food, and also to stock the food for long time, so they hid it in the first floor of their house in a very small room.

One day, the cat and the mouse were sitting beside the fireplace watching a football game and the weather was outside so bad and it started to snow. After like two hours, the door was knocked, so the cat got so surprised because no one can leave his house in that bad weather and she went to open the door and she saw that their friends came to stay in their house for couple days because their car broke down near the house and they need to wait until the storm ends so that they can repair their car.

The cat and the mouse were so happy to have their friends in their house and they decided to prepare the dinner for them. They went to the kitchen to prepare the food, but they did not find enough food in the refrigerator to feed eight members. So the mouse said to the cat, “what we should do now?” the cat said, “we do not have any other choice, we have to come out with some food from the first floor, I think it is time for that now.”

The cat went to the first floor in their house and brought the food and the mouse prepared the dinner for the guests and had very great night that day.

After ten days, the storm was getting much worse and the whole ground covered with the snow. It was very severe storm.  The guests were not able to leave and reach their car. The cat and the mouse had no food left in their house. And after they discussed this problem for a day, the mouse decided to go out to get some food. The cat said,” you can’t go out in this bad weather. “   The mouse answered, “I have to go we can’t stay without food for long time.”

The mouse struggled a lot to get out of the house because there was too much snow, but after walking hours and hours, he got so tired and did not find any market to buy some food. Finally the mouse found an old man in the street he was also trying to find food for his family, so the mouse did not know that and he decided to ask the man if he can give him some food, and when he asked the man about the food the man hit him very strongly and left him in the ground not moving.

After half of the day passed, the cat went out to find the mouse because she was so worried about him. Then she found the mouse in the street deaf and blind because of the hitting. She took him to the house and takes care of him until both of them died.

Author’s Note:

The original story is a story from the Chinese fairy tales units and it is called “Why Dog and Cat are Enemies” It talks about a cat and a dog they were friends and decided to help their owners to get back the luck ring after they sold it, but the cat was so selfish and gets the reward to herself and kept the dog without anything and from that day the cat and dog are enemies. In my story, as everybody knows the mouse and cat can never be friends, so in my story I made these two creatures are an amazing friends and they overcame all the challenges in their life.
