Week 3 Reading Diary: Adam and Eve

After I read the first half of the unit I think I have some notes:
God had built everything in seven days; heavens and earth were finished in seven days. Then, the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed and god wanted to not keep Adam alone and decided to bring him a woman. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." Then Adam and Eva lived in the garden and eat from the tree that the god told them not to eat from.so that made the god got angry and when he came to ask them Adam decided to escape and Eve said that the serpent told her that she can eat from the tree.

God said to the women, "I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."
And unto Adam he said, "Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return."
And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. Then the unit talked about how Adam was look like when he came to the earth. So this extraordinary qualities with which Adam was blessed, physical and spiritual as well, aroused the envy of the angels. They attempted to consume him with fire; In particular, Satan was jealous of the first man, and his evil thoughts finally led to his fall. The physical formation of woman is far more complicated than that of man, as it must be for the function of child-bearing, and likewise the intelligence of woman matures more quickly than the intelligence of man. Many of the physical and psychical differences between the two sexes must be attributed to the fact that man was formed from the ground and woman from bone. After that the unit talked about the Paradise and the seven portals where the souls of the departed must go through these portals before they arrive in the heaven 'Arabot. There were especially six commandments which every human being is expected to heed: man should not worship idols; nor blaspheme God; nor commit murder, nor incest, nor theft and robbery; and all generations have the duty of instituting measures of law and order. Then in the end of this half was talking about the punishment.

  1. Hi Christina, I am glad you did the reading! You need to take notes in your own words, okay? What details do you think are important? What kind of story could you tell? Please do not do any copying; instead, write notes in your own words. Then you will be ready to tell your story, looking at the ideas you wrote about in your diary.
